Primate Ayodele Rejects Defamation Claims, Says Prophecy on Kwankwaso Was Not Personal Attack
The Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has denied allegations of defamation levelled against him by former Kano State Governor and political figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting that his recent remarks were prophetic messages rather than personal attacks.
The controversy emerged after Kwankwaso reportedly threatened legal action against the cleric over comments allegedly questioning the sincerity of his political alliances and future political intentions. The former governor is said to have demanded a retraction and apology over the statements.
Responding through his media team, Primate Ayodele maintained that his comments were based entirely on spiritual revelations and were not intended to malign or damage the reputation of any individual. He stressed that his prophecies are not influenced by personal relationships, political affiliations, or grievances.
The cleric stated that he holds Kwankwaso in high regard and has never had any personal disagreement with him, arguing that there would be no reason for him to deliberately target the former governor or undermine his political ambitions.
Ayodele further expressed disappointment that his remarks had been interpreted as defamatory, noting that dialogue and clarification could have resolved any misunderstanding before the matter escalated into legal threats.
He also urged public figures and individuals mentioned in his prophecies to seek explanations where necessary rather than immediately resorting to litigation or public accusations.
The cleric raised concerns about the alleged manipulation and selective interpretation of his sermons and messages for political purposes, warning against the distortion of prophetic statements to serve partisan interests.
The dispute highlights the growing intersection between religion and politics in Nigeria, where statements and predictions made by influential clerics often generate public debate and political reactions.
As both parties maintain their positions, attention is expected to focus on whether the disagreement will be resolved through dialogue or proceed to legal proceedings.
